StoryBox gives you various options for creating video recordings and integrating them into your project. Here are the most important options:
1. recording with the cell phone camera (recommended)
Our software is optimized for recording with your cell phone. We therefore recommend using your smartphone camera - for both iOS and Android devices. Modern smartphone cameras are usually of very high quality and offer a significantly better image resolution than many integrated and sometimes external laptop webcams. By using your smartphone, you can often achieve much better image quality. This method also offers other advantages:
- You specify the recording format (portrait, landscape or square) in advance.
The orientation of the video is automatically recorded and saved in the correct format (16:9, 9:16 or 1:1). - You always have your stage directions to hand and can edit and synchronize the clips immediately after recording.

2. recording with the laptop camera
You can also conveniently record scenes using the integrated or an external camera on your laptop. This is particularly practical if you prefer to work on your project on your laptop or if you prefer a permanently installed camera.
3. screen recorder
With our ScreenRecorder, you have the option of creating screen recordings. There are several options available to you:
- You can only record the screen.
- You can use the screen and a small window in which you can also be seen via the laptop camera.
- Or you can only record the speaker via the laptop camera without sharing the screen.
4. upload existing video material
You can also add existing videos from your cell phone memory or hard disk to StoryBox. It is important that the material is in the correct aspect ratio (16:9, 9:16 or 1:1). If necessary, crop the video to fit before uploading.
Note: Make sure that the video you want to upload is in mp4 format (images can also be uploaded in jpg or png format).
Nevertheless, we recommend recording via the StoryBox app, because in addition to the advantages mentioned above, this also minimizes possible (albeit rare) compatibility problems.
By the way: In your StoryBox projects, you can also access everything that is stored/uploaded in StoryBox for new projects! Self-created or uploaded videos and even just individual scenes. See here in the knowledge base how you can insert this in WebStudio.
